All babies experience stress as part of normal development. The key difference is how much recovery time is available between those demands. When demand consistently outweighs recovery, parents may notice more persistent challenges with sleep, feeding, or settling.

Common Early Patterns Parents Notice

Every baby is different, but some patterns often prompt parents to seek reassurance:

  • Feeding that feels difficult or inconsistent
  • Frequent waking or unsettled sleep
  • Strong preference for being held upright or in motion
  • Sensitivity to noise, touch, or environment
  • Uneven or asymmetrical movement patterns
  • Difficulty settling after stimulation

These experiences can be common in infancy and don’t automatically indicate a problem.

But they are often a sign that a baby’s system is still refining regulation and coordination.
